Duke

Duke is the co-owner of CITY THAI, originally from Chonburi, a small city in Central Thailand. A lifelong chicken enthusiast, Duke previously ran KATAK, a Portland-based ghost kitchen specializing in fried and roasted chicken. Although Katak has since closed, his love for bold chicken recipes continues at City Thai, where he’s reintroduced his signature fried chicken to the menu.

Duke teamed up with Summer to take over CITY THAI and bring fresh energy to the restaurant. Beyond the food, he’s passionate about creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere that complements the vibrant flavors of their dishes. Together with Summer, Duke is committed to delivering both unforgettable meals and a space where guests feel like family.

Summer

Summer is the co-owner of CITY THAI, a local Hillsdale, Portland restaurant she’s been part of for the past nine years. Originally from Bangkok, Summer’s love for food was shaped by her mother’s home-cooked meals and her grandfather’s Northern Thai roots. Her passion for local Thai food, from the bold flavors of the South to the aromatic dishes of the North, shines through in every dish at CITY THAI.

In October 2023, after her boss opened a new restaurant, and decided to let CITY THAI go, Summer saw an opportunity to take over with her partner, Duke. Grateful for the overwhelming support from the local community and loyal fans, she’s committed to revitalizing the restaurant while preserving its authentic flavors and warm, welcoming atmosphere. Summer’s promise is to continue delivering the best Thai dishes and a true sense of home for everyone who visits.
